A Black student at the Univ. of Connecticut, Hartford, has gone public with a horrible and traumatizing experience she has had to endure simply because of the color of her skin.
The student, Jazzy Rowe, was on the receiving end of multiple types of poisoning at the hands of her roommate.
Her roommate claims to have put molded food products in Jazzy’s skincare and beauty products, stuck her toothbrush “where the sun don’t shine,” smeared used, bloodied tampons on her property, among a number of other things. After successfully bullying Jazzy out of their apartment, Jazzy’s roommate took to Instagram to brag about what she had done.
At one point, Jazzy’s throat was so infected by harmful bacteria that she couldn’t speak. She could have died simply because she’s Black.
The Univ. of Hartford released a statement expressing their appreciation and understanding of the concerns surrounding the incidents. According to the statement, University Public Safety confirmed the case had been turned over to local authorities, who are now investigating. Read the full statement below.
