A Florida middle school teacher is reportedly in police custody for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old student.
According to Newsweek, the two’s secret affair began in November, when the married teacher, 26, sent the student photos of herself completely nude and bought him marijuana.
The parents of the eighth-grade student reportedly contacted authorities after he came clean about their relationship earlier this week.
The alleged victim claims his teacher helped him sneak out of his home a number of times. She would then take him back early the following morning, Fox News reported.
Because of her behavior, the teen claims his grades suffered over the last few months.
After her arrest, police booked Stephanie Peterson Ferri into the Volusia County Branch Jail. Her bail is set at $25,000.
Charges Ferri’s is expected to face include lewd or lascivious battery and transmission of harmful materials to a minor.
After the allegations surfaced, she reportedly quit her job at New Smyrna Beach Middle School, where she had worked since 2016.
Ferri began working as a full-time teacher in 2013. Before that she worked as a substitute teacher in the same district for several years.
Her reason for resigning was due to “personal reasons,” according to a spokesperson for the district.
In light of the disturbing news, the district has taken swift action, notifying parents and asking anyone whose child may have been affected to contact the Child Exploitation Unit of the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
At this time, police have not determined whether they believe this was an isolated incident.
