A man who punched and violently shook his two-day-old daughter to death has been found dead in his prison cell.
Authorities said 22-year-old Liam Deane was found dead in his cell at HMP Leeds in mid-November, just one month after he was imprisoned for brutally killing his daughter Luna in their home.
Another inmate, John Westland, 28, has been charged with murder in the incident.
Westland stood next to two police officers and a member of court escort staff as he was brought into the dock last November.
He remained handcuffed for the duration of the short hearing, speaking only to confirm his personal details.
Due to the severity of the crime, Westland was told that his case was being sent to Leeds Crown Court.
On August 1, Westland, who was serving a sentence for rape and grievous bodily harm, was found guilty of the offense.
