Cop Shoots Photographer Filming Traffic Stop

A police officer in New Carlisle, Ohio, shot a photojournalist on Monday night after his camera and tripod were “apparently [mistaken] for a weapon,” the New Carlisle News reports. New Carlisle News photographer Andy Grimm was rushed to a local hospital after he was shot in his side, according to the publication, which also reports that Grimm underwent surgery and is “expected to recover.” Grimm had reportedly left the newspaper’s office at around 10 p.m. to take photographs of lightning. In a 10:16 p.m. post to a New Carlisle Facebook group, Grimm reached out to locals for suggestions for a “good spot to watch the storms.””*
