San Diego, CA — On Sunday afternoon, Facebook user Angel Nunez captured footage of San Diego police taking a man into custody outside of his workplace. While details surrounding the arrest are scarce, it did not look like it was handled very well.
From the beginning of the video, the man is on the ground in handcuffs with a police dog tightly gripping his forearm. An officer tries to physically pull the dog off for almost a full minute before it finally let go. During the struggle, other officers come over to pin the man’s legs down.
It’s unclear why the officers did not use a command word to call the dog off the suspect, as one might expect a trained police dog to be able to do. Once the dog is removed,
the man appears to have suffered deep bite wounds on his left forearm.
More to come as information becomes available.
UPDATE: Angel Nunez also posted this video showing what happened right before the K-9 took the suspect to the ground.
