Suspect with Alleged Hate Group Ties Wore Blackface in Failed Corona Bank Robbery

A White man with suspected ties to a White supremacist group attempted to rob a bank disguised as a Black man. Back in August, the Corona bank’s security camera caught the man, Jarred Schmittle, trying to hold it up. On Thursday, authorities in Riverside County confirmed Schmittle was finally taken into custody at his home in Lake Elsinore.

The Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station received a call about the robbery at a Wells Fargo Bank in Corona after a silent alarm was pushed on August 18. Deputies were informed that a White man, “with obvious dark make-up to disguise his appearance,” used a note to demand money from a teller and also told the teller he was armed. Schmittle fled the bank a few seconds later without the money but identified himself by his last name.

Police booked Schmittle into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in French Valley.
